Promo codes for your online store
These are discount codes for your shoppers — not the same thing as the subscription coupons in Administration.
What are promo codes?
Codes shoppers type at checkout to get a discount on their cart. Found at Commerce → Promotions, or /dashboard/commerce/promotions.
Permissions: shop_promotions:view to see, shop_promotions:manage to create and edit.
Not the same as the coupons in Administration
⚠️ Pashkateb has two similarly named things:
| Promo codes | Coupons | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Commerce → Promotions | Administration → Coupons |
| Used by | Your shoppers at checkout | You, for your Pashkateb subscription |
| What they do | Reduce the cart value | Extend your subscription and add users |
| Who can create | The store owner | Super admin only |
This page is about the first.
The screen
Stats: Codes · Active · Disabled.
Actions: Create code · Save · Enable / Disable · Refresh.
The form
| Field | Details |
|---|---|
| Code | What the shopper types — keep it short and easy |
| Name / Arabic name | An internal label for your own organisation |
| Description / Arabic | Notes about the campaign |
| Discount type | Percentage or Fixed amount |
| Discount value | The percentage or the amount |
| Minimum subtotal | The smallest cart value the code works on |
| Max total uses | Total redemptions across all shoppers |
| Max uses per customer | How many times one shopper may use it |
| Starts at | Start date and time |
| Ends at | End date and time |
| Enabled | The on/off switch |
The fields that matter
Minimum subtotal
This protects you from a code being used on a tiny order at a loss. If the discount is 50 EGP, set a minimum of at least 300.
It is compared against the cart value, before shipping.
Usage limits
| Field | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Max total uses | Campaign budget — 100 redemptions and no more |
| Max uses per customer | Set it to 1 for a first-order-only code |
Leave either empty for no limit.
The validity window
Always set an end date. A code with no end runs forever, gets shared to coupon groups, and you find yourself permanently discounting without meaning to.
The code is not working?
Check in order:
- Is it enabled?
- Are we inside the window? Check starts at and ends at.
- Does the cart meet the minimum?
- Has the total usage limit run out?
- Has that shopper hit their personal limit?
Scheduled discounts are the other option
To reduce the price of a particular product for a period, without the shopper typing anything, use scheduled discounts in the product editor. The difference:
| Promo code | Scheduled discount | |
|---|---|---|
| Applies to | The whole cart | One product |
| The shopper | Types a code | Does nothing — the price is already lower |
| Suits | Campaigns and influencers | Clearance or a season |
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between promo codes and the coupons in Administration?
They are two entirely different things. Promo codes are used by your shoppers at checkout to reduce their cart. The coupons in Administration apply to your own company's Pashkateb subscription — they extend it and add users.
What does max uses per customer mean?
How many times a single shopper can use that code. Set it to 1 for a code that should be used once per person. Leave it empty for no limit.
Does the discount apply to shipping?
No. The discount applies to the cart value, and the minimum subtotal is also compared against the cart before shipping.
I created a code and it does not work for a shopper
Check in order: is the code enabled? Are we inside its validity window? Does the cart meet the minimum subtotal? Has the total usage limit run out? Has that shopper already hit their per-customer limit?
