Monthly Purchase Summary report
Shows what you spend on stock each month. Read it with the sales summary.
What is this report?
It summarises your purchases month by month — what you spend on stock each month.
Where to find it
Reports → Purchasing Reports → Monthly Purchase Summary, or /dashboard/reports/monthly-purchase-summary.
Permission: reports:monthly_purchase_summary.
Read it beside the sales summary
The ratio between the two matters more than either figure alone.
| Purchases | Sales | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Rising | Rising | Healthy growth |
| Rising | Flat | Your money is turning into dead stock |
| Flat | Rising | You are running your stock down — check reordering |
| Falling | Falling | Contraction — find the cause |
That second row is the most common cause of "business is fine but there is no cash".
It counts submitted invoices only
Draft purchase invoices are excluded, and submitted purchase returns reduce the figure.
Read it with Stock Evaluation
If purchases are high and your stock value keeps growing, you are buying faster than you sell. Open Best Selling Items and check whether you are buying what actually sells.
A routine
Open it at the start of each month with the sales summary. The two figures together give you your cash picture.
Frequently Asked Questions
How should I read it?
Beside the Monthly Sales Summary. If purchases rise while sales stay flat, your money is turning into dead stock. The ratio between them matters more than either figure alone.
The figures are lower than expected
Check for draft purchase invoices. Like every report, it counts submitted ones only.
Are returns included?
Submitted purchase returns reduce the figure, so it is closer to your net purchasing.
