Monthly Sales Summary report

Your most important sales report. Month by month, so you see the trend rather than a single figure.

What is the Monthly Sales Summary report?

It summarises your sales month by month. Your most important sales report, because it shows you the trend rather than a single moment.

Where to find it

Reports → Sales Reports → Monthly Sales Summary, or /dashboard/reports/monthly-sales-summary.

Permission: reports:monthly_sales_summary.

It counts submitted invoices only

Drafts are excluded. If a figure is lower than expected, the first thing to do is open the invoices screen and filter on Draft.

This is a common problem — people prepare invoices and forget to submit them, then wonder why the reports look short.

Returns reduce the figure

Submitted return invoices bring net sales down. So the figure here is closer to your real net sales.

How to read it

One month's figure says nothing. The trend does.

What you seeWhat it means
Two consecutive declining monthsPossibly seasonal
Three declining monthsA real problem — find the cause
A sudden jumpA campaign that worked? A large customer? Find out and repeat it
A long plateauThe business is settled — now think about growth

Read it with other reports

ReportWhat it adds
Best Selling ItemsWhat your sales come from
Top CustomersWho they come from
Lead ConversionWhich channel they come from
Profit and LossHow much profit those sales left

Sales are not profit. Sales can rise while profit falls, if cost or discounting has risen.

A routine

Open it at the start of each month and compare with the previous month and the same month last year. Export and keep it — it builds you a history.

Frequently Asked Questions

The figures are lower than I expected

Check for draft invoices. The report counts submitted ones only, so anything still a draft is missing. Open the invoices screen and filter on Draft.

Are returns included?

Submitted return invoices reduce net sales, so the figure here is closer to your real net sales than simply adding up invoices.

How is month-on-month comparison useful?

A single figure says nothing. The trend does: three consecutive declining months is a real problem, not a slow day.
