Best Selling Items report
Tells you which stock moves. Read it with Stock Evaluation to see whether your money is tied up in what sells.
What is the Best Selling Items report?
It ranks your items by how much of each sold in a period. In other words, which of your stock actually moves.
Where to find it
Reports → Sales Reports → Best Selling Items, or /dashboard/reports/best-selling-items.
Permission: reports:best_selling_items.
It counts submitted invoices only
Drafts are excluded. If the figures look lower than expected, check for drafts first.
Read it with Stock Evaluation
This is the most valuable advice on this page.
Open this report and the Stock Evaluation report side by side:
| Situation | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| High value + not a best seller | Capital frozen in dead stock | Clear it with a discount or offer |
| Low value + a best seller | At risk of running out | Raise the minimum and order more |
| High value + a best seller | Healthy | Carry on |
| Low value + not a best seller | Unimportant | Leave it |
The first row is what solves "business is fine but there is no cash".
Compare it with returns
Open Most Returned Items too. An item that sells a lot and comes back a lot has a description, sizing or quality problem — not a demand problem.
A routine
Open it weekly to see what is moving. Monthly, read it with Stock Evaluation to review where your capital sits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the report count drafts?
No. Like every report, it counts submitted invoices only. If the figures look low, check whether you have invoices still in draft.
How do I actually use it?
Read it alongside Stock Evaluation. A high-value item absent from this list is frozen capital. An item on this list with low stock value is at risk of running out.
Are returns deducted?
To see which items come back often, open the Most Returned Items report. Compare the two — an item that sells well and returns often has a description or quality problem.
