Connecting a custom domain and SSL
Three steps at your domain provider, and Pashkateb handles the certificate itself.
How do I connect a custom domain to my store?
From the Domains step of the store setup wizard, add your domain, create two DNS records at your domain provider, and come back and click Check DNS. Pashkateb handles the SSL certificate itself.
Where to find it
Commerce → the Domains step, on /dashboard/commerce. It is the last step, and it is optional — until a domain verifies, the step is marked needs attention.
Permission: shop_domain:manage.
Two kinds of domain
| Kind | Details |
|---|---|
| Platform subdomain | Created for you automatically and always live. Status Ready from day one |
| Custom domain | Your own — needs DNS setup and verification |
The platform subdomain is never removed. It remains a fallback address even after your own domain is connected.
The steps
1. Add the domain in Pashkateb
In the Add custom domain field, enter your domain (for example shop.example.com) and click Add domain.
It appears in the list as Pending verification, with a three-step setup guide.
2. Create the routing record
At your domain provider, in the DNS settings:
| What you are connecting | Record type |
|---|---|
A subdomain (shop.example.com) | CNAME |
The root domain (example.com) | ALIAS, ANAME, or CNAME flattening |
⚠️ Most domain providers do not allow a CNAME on the root domain. If yours does not support ALIAS or ANAME, connect a subdomain such as
shop.orstore.and redirect the root to it.
The screen shows you the exact value to put in the record.
3. Create the verification record
Create a TXT record with the name and value shown under Verification token.
Copy both exactly — a stray space is enough to fail verification.
4. Check
Return to Pashkateb and click Check DNS.
The status becomes Verified. If it is still Pending, DNS propagation is not finished — wait and try again.
5. Wait for SSL
After verification, Pashkateb requests the certificate itself. There is nothing for you to do.
The SSL status moves from Provisioning to Ready.
Do not publish the domain or give it to shoppers until SSL reads Ready. Before then, visitors may see a security warning.
What the list shows
For each domain: the hostname, verification status, routing type, SSL status, and a Check DNS button. The main domain is marked with a Primary badge.
Common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Pending all day | DNS is still propagating | Wait, try again in an hour |
| Pending after a day | The TXT record is wrong | Copy the name and value again, exactly |
| CNAME rejected on the root | Your provider does not allow it | Use ALIAS/ANAME, or connect a subdomain |
| Browser security warning | SSL is still provisioning | Wait for Ready |
| Domain works but the store is empty | The store is disabled or unpublished | Check the Store details step |
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I use CNAME or ALIAS?
For a subdomain like shop.example.com, use CNAME. For a root domain like example.com, most providers do not allow CNAME at the root — use ALIAS, ANAME, or CNAME flattening if your provider supports it.
I created the records and clicked Check DNS but it still says pending
DNS changes take time to propagate — minutes to hours depending on the provider. Wait and try again. If it is still pending after a day, re-check that the name and value match exactly with no extra spaces.
Do I need to do anything for the SSL certificate?
No. Pashkateb requests it for you once verification succeeds. You will see the SSL status move from Provisioning to Ready. Do not publish the domain before it reaches Ready.
Can I remove the platform subdomain?
No. The platform subdomain stays live permanently as a fallback address. Your custom domain becomes the main address you give shoppers.
