Lead sources: knowing where a customer came from
A simple list you attach to invoices, which gives you two reports showing where your marketing money is working.
What are lead sources?
A simple list of the channels your customers arrive through: Facebook, Instagram, referral, WhatsApp, an ad. You attach a source to a sales invoice, and the system gives you two reports showing which channel actually brings in money.
Where to find it
Relations → Lead Sources, or /dashboard/leads.
Permissions: lead:view to see it, lead:add to create, lead:edit to change, lead:delete to remove.
The form
This is the simplest screen in the system:
| Field | Required? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Name | ✅ | The source name |
| Status | — | Active / Inactive |
Using it
The sales invoice has a field called Lead Source. Pick the source that brought in that order.
The source is recorded on the invoice, not on the customer. That is deliberate: the same customer might buy once from Facebook and once through a friend's referral, and those are two different pieces of information.
The reports
| Report | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Leads List | The sources you have on file |
| Lead Conversion | How many invoices and how much revenue each source produced |
Lead Conversion is the important one — it answers the question "where should I spend my advertising money?"
Tips
- Keep the list short. Five or six clear sources beat twenty.
- Always fill the field in. An invoice with no source vanishes from the report.
- Review the report monthly. A source that brings in nothing is a marketing decision already made.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a lead source and a customer?
The customer is the person or business you sell to. The lead source is the channel that introduced them — Facebook, a referral, an ad. The source is recorded per invoice rather than per customer, because the same customer can come back through a different channel.
Is the source required on an invoice?
No, it is entirely optional. But if you leave it empty, that invoice will not appear in the lead reports — so the report will be incomplete.
How many sources should I create?
Keep them few and clear. Five or six give you a useful report. Twenty leaves you hesitating on every invoice and produces scattered data.
How do I actually use this data?
Through two reports: Leads List shows the sources you have recorded, and Lead Conversion shows how many invoices and how much money each source produced. That is what tells you where to spend your marketing budget.
